At the end of 2013, China has surpassed Japan as the largest supplier of steel products in the ASEAN countries (Association of South East Nations), occupying almost 30% share of the market, the report said South East Asia Iron and Steel Institute (SEAISI).

So, in 2013, Japanese exports hot rolled coils increased yoy by 7.6% to 13.6 million tonnes, of which about 33% was shipped to the ASEAN countries (+3,8% against 2012). At the same time last year, the export of x coils from Japan increased by 2.8% to 5.7 million tonnes, of which 35% were shipped to the countries of the ASEAN (+5,6% against 2012).
On the other hand, in 2013, Chinese exports of steel bars peaked at 9 million tons, up by 48% compared to the same period last year. Of this amount, about 30% came from the ASEAN countries (+59% against 2012).
Thus at the end of last year, China increased its exports of wire rod by 43%, to 8 million tonnes, of which 45% was shipped to the ASEAN countries (+51% against 2012).
At the same time, in 2013, Chinese exports of hot rolled coil increased by 7%, to 6.7 million tonnes, of which 28% came from the ASEAN countries (+3% against 2012); x coils – by 1.7% to 4.4 million tonnes (18% for the ASEAN countries (+1,2% by volume of 2012)).
In addition, last year China increased its exports of galvanized sheet metal by 13% to 5.4 million tons, of which 20% were shipped to the countries of the ASEAN (+51% against 2012).
