In December 2011 the export of black scrap from Russia (including railway deliveries to the countries of the customs Union) amounted to 519,4 thousand tons compared to the previous month, the volume of deliveries increased by 4.8%, and in annual terms increased by 3.6%.
In January–December 2011 the volume of export of the Russian black scrap has reached 5.5 million tons, which is 27.5% higher than 2010 Level in 2009 surpassed 1.9 times. However, compared to the same periods pre-crisis 2006-2008 the export of scrap metal this year dropped to an average of 1.6 times.
In the past year, Turkey has regained its status as a major buyer of Russian black scrap, ahead of the undisputed leader of the previous two years – Belarus. At the end of the year Turkey's share in the Russian exports reached 37,0%, and Belarus – 30,0%.
