South African producer the company Avalloy superalloys developed a new method for purification and disinfection of used scrap components of superalloys. The method, called Avacleanse, allows you to reuse scrap of superalloys to obtain new products after cleaning and smelting.
"Development of a method Avacleanse took us about two years, – says General Director of the company Avalloy Alan Bissell. We began our work with scrap three of the alloys, now this method can be used for many similar materials." Depending on the scrap, its condition and the specifications for cleaning may be used by a different set of processes (mechanical, chemical and pyrometallurgical).
According to Alan Bissell, this method will greatly reduce the cost of superalloys as previously scrap of these metals could not be used for their production due to the high level of contamination and presence of impurities, unacceptable for use with high-tech equipment (turbines, jet engines, etc.).
