According to the Deputy head of administration of seaports of Sakhalin Bogdan Strumica, in the waters of Sakhalin and the Kuriles at the moment there are about 200 abandoned and poluzatonuvshim ships. About 70% of these vessels are members of the fishing fleet.
It is planned that by the end of this year the Sakhalin branch of FSUE "Rosmorport" disposes of 20 old Maritime ships in the harbours of the Sakhalin region. Next year the enterprise will take away from the water and cut up for scrap five derelict vessels. Cleanup activities harbours of Sakhalin are financed from the Federal budget.
