Russia has good prospects for growth in demand for aluminium and its alloys, said Mazzucato Franco (Franco Mazzucato), the Director of the Department of production of alloys of RUSAL, during his speech at the Aluminium Alloys and their Applications Conference, which was held 24-25 in Munich (Germany).
According to his presentation, the centres of production and consumption of aluminium migrating from traditional areas in new, low energy costs, including Russia.
Among other factors contributing to the increased demand for winged metal, Franco Mazzucato attributed the low level of consumption, reaching 2012 5.8 kg per 1 inhabitant (or 826 thousand tons in the whole country). For comparison: in France, Italy, Japan, USA, Canada, Germany, the United Arab Emirates it is above 30 kg per 1 person.
By 2022, per capita demand for aluminium in Russia could reach 9.6 to 14.3 kg, which is equivalent to 1,350-2 million tons, depending on the scenario. Among the key segments of the domestic market, able to push consumption, packaging, automotive, construction and electric power industries.
For example, in 2012, our country had issued 4.4 billion aluminum cans, which went in the order of 57 thousand tons of metal cruise. In the next five years the demand could increase more than two times, reaching 130 thousand tons of aluminum.
The domestic industry is in the field of view of major foreign companies, some of which are already established in the Russian Assembly plants In case of deepening of localization of car production it is possible to abandon the import of components, organize their production in Russia and thus to raise consumption in the automotive industry for 50 thousand tons of aluminum.
Itself RUSAL is negotiating the establishment of enterprises on the grounds of the aluminium smelters in the European part of Russia and Urals. Among them – concluded with the Israeli company Omen High Pressure Die Casting the agreement on the organization of production of automotive components on the basis of the Volkhov aluminum plant.
In addition, RUSAL is discussing with potential investors possibilities of establishing manufacturing aluminium radiators at the Nadvoitsy aluminum plant, and wheels on the Ural and Volgograd aluminium smelters etc.
